Guys nice stuff... i'm just making the cross over from XC to free ride and I would love to do some FR training with you lot but need to get a bike first... going for a Cube bike with full XTR and 150mm travel... I can't wait to meet you guys if you have any hints for me drop me a line.

Don't rush that purchase Carmelo, there are some great options out there. It's definitely a waste of money getting an XTR groupset on a freeride bike, since minimising on weight is not a priority. Your money should be spent on a good solid frame with the right geometry and a decent fork and shock. I would also suggest going for 160mm travel, otherwise you're not going to feel much of a change from your XC setup.

Hi Kennith do you have any suggestions? The bikes I have been looking at are basically the Trek Remedy 9.9, the Cube carbon R1 and I must admit the Cannondale caught my eye but don't know about the lefty also will an additional 10mm travel make that much of a difference? Regarding the difference from the XC setup well i'm on a Rock Shock SL with 80mm travel at the moment and a hard tail... so any kind of suspension on the rear and also more at the front would be heaven for me. I did the route you guys took in Gozo today on my hard tail and came off the bike twice... some of the drops are way too high for an XC bike but I pushed them anyway. :) if you have any recommendations on a bike let me know i'm all ears buddy. I won't join you guys this year for France but I will join next year for sure.

One of the guys Neville, just bought an Iron Horse which great for the kind of stuff we do and makes a super all-round bike. I'll put you in touch with him.

One last question guys do you go for clipless or platform pedals?

Go for platform, helps you maintain optimum technique and avoid embarassing spd-style slow motion face plants

I started with SPDs and recently switched to flatties. Needs some getting used to, but gives you much more confidence after a few rides.

Hey guys,

Looks like i'm following Nev on the choice of bike... Iron Horse 6.6 on the way... seems like plenty of bang for the buck. I should have it soon ordered some Atomlab flat pedals now looking at the five ten shoes. :) Might be able to join you guys for a ride within weeks :).
